Clackamas County, OR

Established in 1843, Clackamas County encompasses an area of 1,883 mi². The third most populous county in the state, it has a population of 416,075 according to the 2018 census. Lake Oswego is the largest city, though the county seat is currently located in Oregon City. Timber, manufacturing, agriculture, and commerce are the counties primary economic activities.

Lane County, OR

Lane County was created from Linn and Benton County, and established in 1851. Located in northwestern Oregon, on the coast, it covers an area of 4,722. It is the fourth most populous county in the state with a population of 379,611. Eugene is both the county seat and the largest city.

Marion County, OR

Marion County was originally called Champooick District, but was renamed after Continental Army general Francis Marionin in 1849. With a population of 346,868, it is the fifth most populous county in Oregon. The county was established in 1844 and covers an area of 1,663 mi². The area experiences an average of 48 inches of rain, 12 inches of snow, and 156 days of sunshine per year. Salem is the county seat and state capital.

Multnomah County, OR

Multnomah County, located in northwestern Oregon, is home to Portland, the county seat and Oregon's largest city. With a population of 811,880 in an area of 466 mi², Multnomah is the most densely populated county in Oregon. Established in 1854, the county was created from two other Oregon counties: Washington and Clackamas.

Washington County, OR

Washington County was originally named Twality. It spans an area of 726 mi². It is the second most populous county in the state with a population of 597,695 as of 2018. The county was established in 1849 and the county seat is currently located in Hillsboro. Nike, Inc.'s world headquarters are located in Washington County, though there was a period when county officials were attempting to annex the headquarters in order to collect more taxes.
